breaking news: william beats jack
For the first time in five years, William has replaced Jack as the #1 boys name in the "Most Popular NSW Baby Names" list - but I found this to be the more interesting development:
Jeff Gilling, director of research at McCrindle Research (which publishes a national baby names list) said names were ''all about individuality''.
''You want your child to almost be a brand. If you don't come up with a unique name, then you come up with a unique spelling. Last year we found 14 different ways people had spelt Amelia. Parents are creating something unique.''
I thought 14 different spellings of Amelia was just impossible, so I tried it, and it's unfortunately very possible. Pretentious parents everywhere, hang your head in shame.
Amelia.
Ameliah.
Ameelia.
Ameilia.
Amilia.
Ameeliah.
Ameiliah.
Amiliah.
Ahmelia.
Emelia.
Emilia.
Emiliah.
Emeliah.

Welcome!
Hi! I'm Sarah. I am a 30-year-old writer, mum, traveller, animal-lover, quasi-vegetarian, lip gloss fiend, movie buff and property addict living in Sydney, Australia. I love the smell of newly-printed magazines and books, a cup of tea and a treat at the end of the day, and packing for holidays.. the anticipation is half the fun! Thanks for visiting :)

Pretentious parents? Bogan parents everywhere.... On the train yesterday I heard a mum (who may or may not have been drunk) tell both of her kids off, poor Destiny and Indiana....
I'm not even going to touch on the disturbing trend of spelling ordinary children's names ridiculous ways, but when on Earth did children become a brand???
